Income Accelerators (Tier 4) use option strategies—primarily covered calls—to convert future upside potential into immediate cash flow.
The Trade-off: Upside vs. Income
Funds like JEPI or JEPQ sell call options on their holdings. This generates significant premium revenue (boosting yields to 8-12%), but caps the fund's potential capital appreciation during bull markets.
- Capped Upside: You will lag the market during strong rallies.
- Downside Buffers: The option premium provides a small cushion during flat or slightly falling markets.
- Taxation: Option premiums are typically taxed as ordinary income, not qualified dividends.
